Festival Promo Design: Observations

—Name of Festival

—(Short description; genre, location, etc)

—Date is quite prominent

—Live acts

—DJs

—Artists, fashion shows, etc.

—Web URL

—List of sponsors (by logo)

Type is very often all caps even for small type, something I don’t always like. This seems especially important for band names. Almost always white type on black background. VERY rarely deviates from this. Text is often made to look like it is glowing, whether literally glowing or not.

Color palette: Always red/black/white or yellow/black/white.

Attractive women are used on flyers often, but usually for smaller events and festivals.

The most successful flyers have very short lists of bands, or no list displayed at all. Simplifies layout.

Must include list of sponsors. Kinetic 2011 does this well because it’s all one color and uses the gradient from their 2011 brand identity.

All posters, flyers, and website components that appeal to me out of what I found.

Examples of flyers for festivals and club nights, some of which are local to Boston. These are the ones I do not care for aesthetically. However, it helps me see the commonalities between these promotional materials. I can then gather informed opinions about what to use from this, and what to reject.
